Hawaiʻi County DUI Statistics: December 13-19

Hawaiʻi County Police arrested 31 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant during the week of December 13, 2021, through December 19, 2021.  Nine of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. None of the drivers were under the age of 21.

Thus far in 2021, there have been 1,042 DUI arrests compared with 973 during the same period last year, an increase of 7.1 percent.

There have been 785 major accidents so far in 2021 compared with 753 during the same period in 2020, an increase of 4.2 percent.

To date this year, there have been 25 fatal crashes, resulting in 25 fatalities, compared with 15 fatal crashes, resulting in 15 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents an increase of 66.7 percent for fatal crashes, and 66.7 percent for fatalities. The traffic fatality that occurred this morning in Kea‘au will be included in next week’s update.

 

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
