Hawaiʻi Island Lane Closures: Week of December 25-31

The Department of Transportation has released a number of lane closures throughout Hawaiʻi between December 25, 31.  Below is a detailed list of scheduled roadwork and maintenance:

Kuakini Highway (Route 11)

KEAUHOU (WEEKEND/WEEKLY WORK)

Single lane closure on Kuakini Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between Walua Road and Puuloa Road, on Sunday, Dec. 26 through Thursday, Dec. 30, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for tree trimming and landscaping work.

Mamalahoa Highway

MOUNTAIN VIEW (WEEKEND/WEEKLY WORK)

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile markers 6 and 10, Liilii Street and Volcano Road, on Sunday, Dec. 26 through Thursday, Dec. 30, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for landscaping work.

MOUNTAIN VIEW (WEEKEND/WEEKLY WORK)

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile markers 16 and 17, N Peck Road and Volcano Road, on Sunday, Dec. 26 through Thursday, Dec. 30, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for tree trimming work.

NAALEHU

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile markers 66 and 68, near 68 Mile Road, on Tuesday, Dec. 28 through Thursday, Dec. 30, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for landscaping work.

HONAUNAU (WEEKEND/WEEKLY WORK)

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile markers 94 and 95, Ahe Kolo Place and Kukui O Pae Place, on Sunday, Dec. 26 through Thursday, Dec. 30, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for landscaping work.

Hawai’i Belt Road 

PEPEEKEO TO HAKALAU (WEEKEND/WEEKLY WORK)

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between Old Mamalahoa Highway and Leopolino Road on Sunday, Dec. 26 through Thursday, Dec. 30, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for mowing and landscaping work. 

 HAKALAU TO NINOLE

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between Old Mamalahoa Highway and Hanamalo Lane, on Tuesday, Dec. 28 through Thursday, Dec. 30, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for mowing and landscaping work. 

HONOMU (24/7 RESTRICTION)

Kolekole Bridge at mile marker 14.27 on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) is weight restricted to 12 tons (24,000 lbs.) until further notice. The speed limit in the area is reduced to 25 mph. See https://hidot.hawaii.gov/highways/weight-limit-for-kolekole-bridge-now-12-tons/ for details.

MOUNTAIN VIEW

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between Mauna Loa Drive and Mauna Kea Drive, on Tuesday, Dec. 28 through Thursday, Dec. 30, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for tree trimming and mulching work.

PAPAALOA TO OOKALA (WEEKEND/WEEKLY WORK)

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between mile markers 21 and 22, on Tuesday, Dec. 28 through Thursday, Dec. 30, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for tree trimming and shoulder work.

PAPAALOA TO OOKALA (WEEKEND/WEEKLY WORK)

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between mile markers 21 and 27, Pohakupuka Stream and Jardine Road, on Sunday, Dec. 26 through Thursday, Dec. 30, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for shoulder stabilization, tree trimming and landscape work.

Keaau-Pahoa Road

PAHOA

Single lane closure on Keaau-Pahoa Road (Route 130) possible in either direction between mile markers 7 and 9, Aulii Street and Niaulani Street, on Tuesday, Dec. 28 through Thursday, Dec. 30, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for mowing and landscaping work.

Mamalahoa Highway

WAIKOLOA (WEEKEND/WEEKLY WORK)

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 190) possible in either direction between mile markers 12 and 14, Waikoloa Road and Daniel K. Inouye Highway (Saddle Road), on Sunday, Dec. 26 through Thursday, Dec. 30, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for shoulder work.

Kohala Mountain Road

KOHALA

Single lane closure on Kohala Mountain Road (Route 250) possible in either direction between mile markers 5 and 12, Kawaihae Road and Puuhue Road, on Tuesday, Dec. 28 through Thursday, Dec. 30, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for shoulder restoration and landscaping.

Akoni Pule Highway

HAWI (WEEKEND/WEEKLY WORK)

Single lane closure on Akoni Pule Highway (Route 270) possible in either direction in the vicinity of Kapaa Park Road, on Sunday, Dec. 26 through Thursday, Dec. 30, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for mowing and general landscaping work.
