Prosecuting Attorney Kelden Waltjen announced that 23 year-old Kaleo Bohol of Puna was charged in relation to a January burglary from a Hilo business on Kanoelehua Avenue which resulted in the theft of a Toyota pickup truck and nearly $5,000.00 in tools. Bohol was also charged with the theft of a Subaru Forester, that was originally reported stolen from a Hawaiian Beaches residence in January.

As the Complaint alleges, Bohol was charged with 8 offenses including Burglary in the Second Degree (enter a building with the intent to commit theft), Unauthorized Entry Into a Motor Vehicle in the First Degree, four counts of Theft in the Second Degree (unauthorized control of property that exceeds $750 in value with the intent to deprive the owner of the property, a Toyota pickup truck, a Subaru Forester, and Milwaukee and Dewalt brand tools and a rollaway tool chest), and two counts of Unauthorized Control of Propelled Vehicle in the First Degree (unauthorized control of a Toyota pickup truck and Subaru Forester without the owner’s consent).

The cases were initiated by Officer Lawrence Kobayashi, South Hilo Patrol and Officer Christian Madera, Puna Patrol. The felony investigation was handled by Detectives John 2 Balberde and Jeremy Kubojiri, Area I Criminal Investigation Section, Hawai‘i Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Elyssa Correia Keltner.

The charges are merely allegations, and the Defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
