The National Weather Service High Surf Advisory that was previously issued for Hawaiʻi Island has been upgraded to a High Surf Warning.  This High Surf Warning is in effect for all west facing shores of Hawaiʻi Island from Limukoko Point in North Kohala to Ka`una Point in Ka`u through Wednesday, February 16.

Forecast wave heights are 9 to 12 feet.

A High Surf Warning means large breaking surf, significant shore break, and dangerous currents make entering the water very hazardous.

.Due to the High Surf Warning, the following are issued:
• Expect strong breaking waves, shore break, and rip currents making swimming difficult and dangerous.
• Property owners in low coastal areas should prepare their property for high surf.
• Beach-goers, swimmers, and surfers should heed all advice given by ocean safety officials and exercise caution.
• Beaches may be closed without notice.
