Prosecuting Attorney Kelden Waltjen announced that 44 year-old Jerrylene Kanakanui of Hilo was charged in relation to a February 11 incident at an Alu Street residence.

As the Complaint alleges, Kanakanui was charged with Burglary in the First Degree.  Review of court records indicate that at the time of the alleged offense, Kanakanui was pending two unrelated burglary charges, including a Kona burglary alleged to have occurred on February 7, 2022 where she was later granted supervised release over Prosecutors’ objections.

The case was handled by Officers Joshua Rodby-Tomas and Gyasi Williams, South Hilo Patrol, Hawai‘i Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Kevin Hashizaki. The charges are merely allegations, and the Defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
