Police Identify Body Found on Hakalau Shoreline

Hawai‘i Island police have positively identified the body that was discovered on the shoreline below the Hakalau Bridge on Wednesday, February 23, 2022, as 23-year-old Ron Jon Cacho Pira, of Honoka‘a. 

According to the forensic pathologist who performed Ron Jon Cacho Pira’s autopsy, there were no signs of foul play. The full autopsy report is pending toxicology results.

Area I Criminal Investigation Section personnel are investigating this case, which is classified as a coroner’s inquest.

Police ask anyone who may have seen Pira on the highway near the Hakalau Bridge or in the area on February 22 and 23 are encouraged to call the police department’s non-emergency number at (808) 935-3311, or contact Detective Scotty Aloy of the Area I Criminal Investigation Section at (808) 961-2381 or email Scotty.Aloy@hawaiicounty.gov.
