Prosecuting Attorney Kelden Waltjen announced that 37 year-old Alexander Keith of Honolulu was arrested and charged in relation to a series of offenses including burglary, criminal property damage, and theft from a Hilo business and theft related offenses from two different Hilo residences that took place on Tuesday, March 29.

As the Complaint alleges, Keith was charged with 7 offenses including Burglary in the Second Degree (enter a building with intent to commit a crime against a person or property rights), Criminal Property Damage in the Second Degree (damage property of another, a door and door frame, without the owner’s consent in an amount which exceeded $1,500), Theft of a Credit Card, Unauthorized Possession of Confidential Personal Information, and three counts of Theft in the Fourth Degree (exert unauthorized control over the property of another, the value of which didn’t exceed $100, without the owner’s consent). Burglary in the Second Degree, Criminal Property Damage in the Second Degree, Theft of a Credit Card, and Unauthorized Possession of Confidential Personal Information are all class C felony offenses punishable by a maximum penalty of 5 years in prison.

The investigation was handled by Officers Lawrence Matsumoto, Dustin Chaves, and Joshua Gouveia, South Hilo Patrol, and Detective Blaine Morishita, Area I Criminal Investigation Section, Hawai‘i Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Kirsten Selvig.

The charges are merely allegations, and the Defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
