Hawaiʻi County Lane Closures: Week of May 16

The Department of Transportation has announced a number of lane closures throughout Hawaiʻi Island during the week of May 16, 2022.  Lane closure schedules may change at any time without further notice.  Below is a detailed list of scheduled roadwork and maintenance:

KANOELEHUA AVENUE (ROUTE 11) 

HILO

Single lane closure on Kanoelehua Avenue (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile markers 0 and 4, in the vicinity of Kamehameha Avenue and Lama Street, on Monday, May 16 through Friday, May 20, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for shoulder work and stabilization.

 MAMALAHOA HIGHWAY (ROUTE 11) 

OCEAN VIEW

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile markers 82 and 84, in the vicinity of Manuka Bay Road, on Monday, May 16 through Friday, May 20, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for grass cutting.

CAPTAIN COOK

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile markers 108 and 109, in the vicinity of Kiloa Road and Nanaina Lani Place, on Monday, May 16 through Friday, May 20, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for mulching and sidearm mowing.

HAWAII BELT ROAD (ROUTE 19) 

HILO

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between mile markers 2.5 and 2.7, Shipman Street and Puueo Street, on Monday, May 16 through Friday, May 20, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for Wailuku Stream Bridge improvement work.

PAPAIKOU

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction in the vicinity of mile marker 6.3, near Kapue Stream, on Monday, May 16 through Friday, May 20, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for sewer force main repair.

HAKALAU (WEEKEND/WEEKLY WORK)

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction near mile marker 13.8, near Kolekole Beach Park, through Friday, May 20, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., for bridge repair work.

HONOMU (24/7 RESTRICTION)

Kolekole Bridge at mile marker 14.27 on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) is weight restricted to 12 tons (24,000 lbs.) until further notice. The speed limit in the area is reduced to 25 mph. See https://hidot.hawaii.gov/highways/weight-limit-for-kolekole-bridge-now-12-tons/ for details.

HAKALAU

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between mile markers 15 and 16, vicinity of Umauma Stream and Chin Chuck Road, on Monday, May 16 through Friday, May 20, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for sidearm mowing/grass cutting.

LAUPAHOEHOE

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between mile markers 26 and 27, vicinity of Jardine Road, on Monday, May 16 through Friday, May 20, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for tree trimming and shoulder work.

QUEEN KAAHUMANU HIGHWAY (ROUTE 19) 

WAIKOLOA

Single lane closure on Kawaihae Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between mile markers 69 and 75, Hapuna Beach Road and Waikoloa Beach Drive, on Monday, May 16 through Friday, May 20, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for tree trimming and shoulder work.

KEAAU-PAHOA ROAD/ PAHOA-KALAPANA ROAD (ROUTE 130) 

KEAAU

Single lane closure on Keaau-Pahoa Road (Route 130) possible in either direction between mile markers 0.0 and 3, Highway 130 intersection with Hawaii Belt Road and Keaau High School, on Monday, May 16 through Friday, May 20, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for installation of advance traffic signal indicators. 

MAMALAHOA HIGHWAY (ROUTE 190)  

KAMUELA

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 190) possible in either direction between mile markers 3.9 and 6.9, Saddle Road and Cross Island Road, on Monday, May 16 through Friday, May 20, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for shoulder widening, installation of rumble strips and other safety improvements.

KOHALA MOUNTAIN ROAD (ROUTE 250) 

 HAWI

Single lane closure on Kohala Mountain Road (Route 250) possible in either direction between mile markers 14 and 17, Puuhue Road and Puu Mamo Drive, on Monday, May 16 through Friday, May 20, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for tree trimming and shoulder work.

AKONI PULE HIGHWAY (ROUTE 270) 

KAPAAU

Single lane closure on Akoni Pule Highway (Route 270) possible in either direction in the vicinity of mile marker 20, near Union Mill Road, on Monday, May 16 through Friday, May 20, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for installation of a waterline and meter.
