HPD Investigating the Discovery of a Body in Kona

Hawai‘i Island police are investigating the discovery of a body found near the intersection of Palani Road and Queen Ka‘ahumanu Highway in Kailua-Kona.
 
On Tuesday morning, Kona patrol officers arrived at the intersection of Palani Road and Queen Ka‘ahumanu Highway after receiving a report of a lifeless body near a tree.
 
The victim, who has been identified as a 63-year-old Kailua-Kona resident, was transported to Hilo Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.  An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the exact cause of death.  The victim’s official identity is being  is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
 
Detectives with the Area II Criminal Investigation Section responded to the scene and are continuing this investigation, which is currently classified as a coroner’s inquest.
