Kona Man Arrested and Charged in Domestic Abuse Investigation

A 26-year-old Kona man was arrested and charged for two counts of abuse of a family household member for an incident that took place at a Kona residence.

During the course of their investigation, Hawaiʻi County police learned that Miguel Cancino Magana had gotten in a verbal argument with his live-in girlfriend that became physical at their residence.  While the couple’s two-year-old child was present, Cancino Magana allegedly strangled his girlfriend by placing both of his hands around her neck while pressing her against a wall, nearly causing her to pass out. He also struck her in the face and threatened her with a firearm.

Miguel Cancino Magana was located in Kona on Wednesday, May 25, and subsequently arrested. During the conclusion of the investigation, four firearms and multiple rounds of ammunition were recovered.

After conferring with the County Prosecutor’s Office, Cancino Magana was charged with two counts of felony abuse of a family household member and his bail was set at $20,000. His initial court appearance was  on Wednesday, May 25, in Kona Family Court.
