Hawaiʻi Island Lane Closures: Week of July 25

The Department of Transportation has announced a number of lane closures throughout Hawaiʻi Island during the week of July 25, 2022.  Lane closure schedules may change at any time without further notice.  Below is a detailed list of scheduled roadwork and maintenance:

MAMALAHOA HIGHWAY (ROUTE 11) 

PAHALA

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile markers 54 and 56, Kaalaiki Road and Hilea Road, on Monday, July 25 through Friday, July 29, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., for mowing with side arm.

2) CAPTAIN COOK

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile markers 93 and 95, Ohia Malu Road and Kukui o Pae Place, on Monday, July 25 through Friday, July 29, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., for mulching of trees and shrubs.

 

HAWAII BELT ROAD (ROUTE 19) 

1) HILO

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between mile markers 4 and 5, Kulana Kea Drive and Kahoa Place, on Monday, July 25 through Friday, July 29, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., for tree trimming and mulching.

2) HAKALAU (WEEKEND/WEEKLY WORK)

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction near mile marker 13.8, near Kolekole Beach Park, on Saturday, July 23 through Friday, July 29, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., for bridge repair work.

3) HONOMU (24/7 RESTRICTION)

Kolekole Bridge at mile marker 14.27 on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) is weight restricted to 12 tons (24,000 lbs.) until further notice. The speed limit in the area is reduced to 25 mph. See https://hidot.hawaii.gov/highways/weight-limit-for-kolekole-bridge-now-12-tons/ for details.

 

KALANIANAOLE AVENUE (ROUTE 19) 

KEAUKAHA

Single lane closure on Kalanianaole Avenue (Route 19) possible in either direction between Kamehameha Avenue and Kauhane Avenue, nightly from 7 p.m. Monday, July 25 through 5 a.m. Thursday, July 28, for the Kalanianaole Avenue Reconstruction. KEAAU-PAHOA ROAD/ PAHOA-KALAPANA ROAD (ROUTE 130) 

1) KEAAU (WEEKEND/WEEKLY WORK)

Single lane closure on Keauu-Pahoa Road (Route 130) possible in either direction between mile marker 0 and 2, Volcano Road to vicinity of Opukahala Street, Saturday, July 23 and Monday, July 25 through Friday, July 29, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., for tree trimming, mechanical mowing, and shoulder restoration.

2) PAHOA

Single lane closure on Pahoa-Kalapana Road (Route 130) possible in either direction between mile marker 10 and 12, Niaulani Street and Kaohe Homestead Road, on Monday, July 25 through Friday, July 29, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. for vegetation cutting.

3) PAHOA

Single lane closure on Pahoa-Kalapana Road (Route 130) possible in either direction near mile marker 15.4, Alaili Road, on Monday, July 25 through Friday, July 29, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for pavement and guardrail improvements.

 

OLD KEAAU-PAHOA ROAD (ROUTE 139) 

1) KEAAU

Single lane closure on Old Keauu-Pahoa Road (Route 139) possible in either direction between mile marker 0 and 1.2, Volcano Road to Keaau-Pahoa Road, on Monday, July 25 through Friday, July 29, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., for mechanical mowing and shoulder restoration.

 

MAMALAHOA HIGHWAY (ROUTE 190) 

1) KAMUELA

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 190) possible in either direction between mile markers 3.9 and 6.9, Saddle Road and Cross Island Road, on Monday, July 25 through Friday, July 29, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for shoulder widening, installation of rumble strips and other safety improvements.

 

AKONI PULE HIGHWAY (ROUTE 270) 

1) KAWAIHAE

Single lane closure on Akoni Pule Highway (Route 270) possible in either direction between mile markers 4 and 8, Leie Naia Drive and vicinity of Kaupalaoa, on Monday, July 25 through Friday, July 29, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., for vegetation control with side arm unit.
