34 year-old Kaipo Henry Pomroy of Hilo was charged with felony criminal property damage of a police vehicle, methamphetamine possession, and resisting arrest in relation to an August 9, 2022 incident in Hilo.

As the Complaint alleges, Pomroy, who has prior felony convictions for burglary, assault, theft, and unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, was charged with Criminal Property Damage in the Second Degree (intentionally or knowingly damage property of another, a police vehicle belonging to the County of Hawai‘i, without consent, by means other than fire, in an amount which exceeded $1,500), Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the Third Degree (possess any amount of methamphetamine), and Resisting Arrest.

Criminal Property Damage in the Second Degree and Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the Third Degree, are both class C felony offenses which carry a maximum penalty of a 5 years in prison. If convicted as charged of the criminal property damage offense, Pomroy faces sentencing to a mandatory prison term.

Review of Court minutes indicate that at the time of the alleged offenses, Pomroy was out of custody pending revocation of his felony probation and wanted for three outstanding warrants.

Pomroy made his initial appearance in Hilo District Court last Wednesday. His bail was maintained at $21,000.00 and he was ordered to appear for a preliminary hearing on August 15.

The investigation was handled by Officer Jerome Duarte, Area I Traffic Enforcement Unit, and Officers Lisa Ebesugawa and Joshua Rodby-Tomas, South Hilo Patrol, Hawai‘i Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Heipua Ahloy.

The charges are merely allegations, and the Defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
