Hawai‘i Island police are investigating the discovery of a badly decomposed body at a Mountain View residence yesterday.

Puna patrol officers located a decomposing body on the floor of a Lehua Street residence after receiving a call from someone who discovered a foul smell from inside the home after checking on the welfare of an acquaintance within.  The male victim, whose identity is pending positive identification of next of kin, was transported to Hilo Medical Center and pronounced dead.

Area I Criminal Investigation Section detectives responded to the scene to assist in the investigation.
Detectives suspect foul play may be a factor in the fatality.  An autopsy is scheduled for later this week.

Police are asking anyone who may have information relative to this case to call Detective Kimo Keliipaakaua of the Area I Criminal Investigation Section at (808) 961-2375, or email at kimo.keliipaakaua@hawaiicounty.gov.
