The East Hawaiʻi Traffic Enforcement Unit has identified 45-year-old Ryan Miras of Hilo as the operator of a 2019 Honda motorcycle involved in a fatal two-vehicle traffic collision that occurred in Hilo last weekend.

Hawai‘i Island police determined that Miras was traveling south on Kanoelehua when he rear-ended a 1997 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck stopped at a red light at the East Kawili Street intersection.

The 32-year-old male driver of the Toyota pickup truck was not injured as a result of this collision.

Speed as well as the fact that Miras was not wearing a helmet are the two primary factors in the outcome of this collision. The East Hawaiʻi Traffic Enforcement Unit continues their investigation as a coroner’s inquest, which remains pending. Officer Clifford Antonio is the lead investigator and can be contacted at (808) 961-2339 or via email at Clifford.Antonio@HawaiiCounty.gov.
