U.S. Coast Guard crews are searching for an Australian cruise ship passenger 500-miles south of Kailua-Kona.

On Tuesday evening, Joint Rescue Coordination Center Honolulu received a report from the Quantum of the Seas cruise ship saying a man had gone overboard. The ship’s crew remained on scene to search for approximately two hours, deploying six life rings.

Yesterday, a Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point C-130 Hercules aircrew arrived on scene to begin search for the passenger. After six hours on scene, the crew returned to Air Station Barbers Point for fuel replenishment. They will resume their search this morning.

The cruise ship has been at sea for 15 days and is expected to dock in Honolulu on Friday.
