Hawai’i Island police identified the 11-month-old girl who recently drowned at a Hilo residence in as Kuulei Keonaona Farley.

Following an an autopsy, the forensic pathologist ruled that there were no traumatic injuries to the child and the death was consistent with drowning. Foul play is not suspected, however final autopsy results are pending standard toxicology testing.

On July 6, South Hilo patrol officers responded to a Hilo residence after receiving a report of an unresponsive child found in a swimming pool.

Upon arrival, officials learned that the unresponsive infant and her 6-year-old brother were found by their mother in an inflatable pool with water approximately one-foot deep.

Family members began CPR until HFD medics arrived and took over while en route to Hilo Medical Center where life-saving measures continued but were unsuccessful. The infant was later pronounced dead.

Police are asking anyone who may have information relative to this incident to contact Detective Zenas Pacheco with the Area I Criminal Investigation Section at (808) 961-2384, or via email at zenas.pacheco@hawaiicounty.gov.
