The Hawai‘i County Police Department identified the victim of a South Point drowning as 53-year-old Michael Lynn Seargeant of Ocean View.

On Friday, June 30, Ka‘ū patrol officers responded to a report of a swimmer in distress near the Kalae Cove Park, commonly known as the “Hoist.” Bystanders brought the distressed swimmer to shore and began CPR until Hawai‘i County Fire Department personnel arrived on scene. Unfortunatly attempts to resuscitate the man were unsuccessful.

Investigators are still awaiting the autopsy/toxicology results to determine exact cause of death.
