(UPDATED)

As of 5pm on Wednesday, August 9, the Hawaiʻi County Fire Department that Akoni Pule Highway, Highway 270 in Kohala, and Mauna Kea Beach Drive have reopened. In addition, the mandatory evacuations of Kohala Ranch and Mauna Kea Resort at the Villas residential area are lifted.

There are no road closures and active evacuations at this time.

The evacuation shelters that were established at Hisaoka Gym in Kapaau and the Waimea Community Center in Waimea will be closing at 8 PM Wednesday evening.

The National Weather Service Red Flag Warning for leeward areas of Hawaii Island remains in effect as critical fire weather conditions of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures makes for extreme fire danger.

Individuals are urged to postpone and avoid all outdoor activities using open flames and parking of vehicles on dry vegetation after driving.

Those impacted by the brush fires or high winds, should report damages to Civil Defense at 808-935-0031.
