Big Island Lane Closures: Week of October 9

The Department of Transportation announced a number of Hawaiʻi Island lane closures during the week of October 9, 2023. Lane closure schedules may change without notice at any time. All projects are weather permitting.

 

 KUAKINI HIGHWAY / MAMALAHOA HIGHWAY (ROUTE 11) 

OCEAN VIEW
Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile post 76 and 78, in the vicinity of 1Ginger Blossom Lane on Monday, Oct. 9 through Friday, Oct. 13 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for vegetation cutting.

CAPTAIN COOK
Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile post 101.1 and 101.2, on Monday, Oct. 9 through Friday, Oct. 13, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for installation of permanent striping on the speed hump at Hookena Elementary School.


HAWAII BELT ROAD / KAWAIHAE ROAD (ROUTE 19) 

PEPEEKEO
Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction, between mile post 11 and 13, in the vicinity of Old Mamalahoa Highway, Monday, Oct. 9 through Friday, Oct. 13 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for vegetation cutting.

PAPAALOA
Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between mile post 23 and 27, in the vicinity of Stevens Road, on Monday, Oct. 9 through Friday Oct. 13 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for striping and installing reflective markers.

HONOKAA
Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction, between mile post 36 and 39, in the vicinity of Chopper Boulevard, on Monday, Oct. 9 through Friday, Oct. 13, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for restriping of the roadway.

HONOKAA TO KAMUELA
Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction, in the vicinity of Mud Lane and Iokua Place on Monday, Oct. 9 through Friday, Oct. 13 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for paving work.

KAMUELA
Single lane closure on Kawaihae Road (Route 19) possible in either direction, in the vicinity of Waimea Community Center on Monday, Oct. 9 through Friday, Oct. 13 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for striping on the speed hump.

KAILUA KONA
Single lane closure on Queen Kaahumanu Highway (Route 19) possible in either direction, between mile marker 72 and 82, on Monday, Oct. 9 through Friday, Oct. 13, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for vegetation cutting and tree trimming.

KAILUA KONA
Single lane closure on Queen Kaahumanu Highway (Route 19) possible in either direction between mile marker 94 and 99, in the vicnity of Palani Road, on Monday, Oct. 9 through Friday, Oct. 13 , from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for vegetation cutting.


 PAHOA BYPASS ROAD / KEAAU-PAHOA ROAD (ROUTE 130) 

KEAAU
Roving right lane closure on Keaau-Pahoa Road (Route 130)in the southbound direction between mile post 0 and 2.1, in the vicinity of Hawaii Belt Road on Monday, Oct. 9 through Friday, Oct. 13 from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for striping the roadway.

PAHOA
Single lane closure on Pahoa Bypass Road/Keaau-Pahoa Road (Route 130) possible in either direction between f mile post 9 and 11, in the vicinity of Kahakai Boulevard on Monday, Oct. 9 through Friday, Oct. 13 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for cleaning and clearing of guardrails.


 MAMALAHOA HIGHWAY (ROUTE 190) 


KAMUELA
Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 190) possible in either direction, between mile marker 0.18 and 0.23, in the vicinity of Ahuli Circle, beginning Monday, Oct. 9 through Friday, Oct. 13, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for the installation of permanent striping on the speed hump at Ulu Laau Lane.

KAMUELA
Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 190) possible in either direction, between mile post 0.9 and 3.9, in the vicinity of Lalamilo Farm Road, beginning Monday, Oct. 9 through Friday, Oct. 13 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for restriping the road.

KALAOA
Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 190) possible in either direction, between mile post 16.9 and 26, beginning Monday, Oct. 9 through Friday, Oct. 13 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for crews to work on highway safety improvements, strengthening and extending shoulders.


KOHALA MOUNTAIN ROAD (ROUTE 250) 

KAMUELA
Single lane closure on Kohala Mountain Road (Route 250) possible in either direction between mile post 6.17 and 10.6, on Monday, Oct. 9 through Friday, Oct. 13 from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for resurfacing and reconstructing the roadway and weakened shoulder.


 AKONI PULE HIGHWAY (ROUTE 270) 

HAWI
Single lane closure on Akoni Pule Highway (Route 270) possible in either direction between mile post 8 and 15, beginning Monday, Oct. 9 through Friday, Oct. 13 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for tree trimming and shoulder work.

PUAINAKO STREET (ROUTE 2000) 

HILO
Right lane closure on Puainako Street (Route 2000) in the eastbound direction in the vicinity ofKomohana Street near the old reservoir, on Wednesday, Oct. 11 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., for the Department of Water will cutting trees. Message boards have been placed and Police will be directing traffic.
