Police Reserve Officer Theodore Hamada was recently honored for his 51-years of service with the Hawaiʻi County Police Department.

In August 1972, Officer Hamada was appointed as a Police Cadet. In November 1973 he became a sworn Police Officer and worked on the Traffic Task Force in District 1 and then in South Hilo Patrol until his Service Retirement on December, 31, 1998.

Hamada started as a volunteer Reserve Officer on January 1, 1999 and has continued dedicating his time and energy to the community up to his planned separation on November 30, 2023. In total, he has served a combined total of 51-years, 3-months, and 16-days with HPD.

In recognition of his monumental efforts, Mayor Roth proclaimed November 30, 2023 to be Theodore Hamada Appreciation Day in Hawaiʻi County. The Proclamation, along with a Certificate from the Hawai’i County Council was presented to Hamada by Council Chair Heather Kimball, Police Chief Benjamin Moszkowicz, and Acting Deputy Police Chief Reed Mauna.
