Hawai‘i Island police have reclassified the December 23, 2023 shooting of Dingie Anthony Dean Martin of Mountain View to second-degree murder after he passed away on Christmas eve.
On December 23, Puna patrol officers responded to a Hawaiian Acres subdivision residence after receiving a report of a man who had been shot. Officers located Martin unconscious on the ground while being tended to by several acquaintances. He was then transported via ambulance to the Hilo Medical Center Emergency Room where he remained until he succumbed to his injuries on the evening of December 24.
Detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigation Section, who are continuing to investigate this incident, have not yet identified a suspect or motive in this case; however, they continue to conduct interviews and follow-up on leads.
