Hawaiʻi County Lane Closures: Week of February 19

The Department of Transportation announced the following Hawaiʻi Island lane closures during the week of February 19, 2024. Lane closure schedules may change without notice at any time. There will be no closures on Monday, Feb. 19 in observance of President’s Day. All projects are weather permitting.

 

MAMALAHOA HIGHWAY/HAWAII BELT ROAD (ROUTE 11) 

 MOUNTAIN VIEW 

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile post 18 and 20, beginning Tuesday, Feb. 20 through Friday, Feb. 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for vegetation cutting. 

 

NAALEHU 

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile post 63 to 65, beginning Tuesday, Feb. 20 through Friday, Feb. 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for vegetation cutting. 

 

CAPTAIN COOK 

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile post 88.9 and 92.5, in the vicinity of Papalani Road, beginning Tuesday, Feb. 20 through Friday, Feb. 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for tree trimming and mowing.  

  

CAPTAIN COOK  

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile post 89 and 93, in the vicinity of Papalani Road and Ohia Malu Road, beginning Tuesday, Feb. 20 through Friday, Feb. 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for tree trimming. 

 

CAPTAIN COOK 

Single lane clomsure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile post 97.2 to 104.7, in the vicinity of Haleili Street and Filipino Clubhouse Road, beginning Tuesday, Feb. 20 through Friday, Feb. 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for crews to work on safety improvements of the roadway.  

 

KEALAKEKUA 

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile post 111.40 t0 111.47, in the vicinity of Hale Keekee Place, beginning Wednesday, Feb. 21 through Friday, Feb. 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for the replacement of the sidewalks that connect to the crosswalk.  

 

 HAWAII BELT ROAD / KAWAIHAE ROAD (ROUTE 19) 

 

PAPAIKOU 

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between mile post 6.2 and 6.4, in the vicinity of Kapue Stream Bridge, beginning Tuesday, Feb. 20 through Friday, Feb. 23 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. for emergency repairs to Kapue Stream Bridge.  

 

HAKALAU 

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction, between mile post 15.5 and 17.6, beginning Tuesday, Feb. 20 through Friday, Feb. 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for the application of new lane striping and reflective markers.  

 

PAPAALOA TO OOKALA 

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction, between mile post 23 and 27.6, in the vicinity of Stevens Road, on Tuesday, Feb. 20 through Friday, Feb. 23, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for applying new roadway striping and reflective markers. 

 

KAMUELA 

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction, between mile post 51 and 54, in the vicinity of Iokua Place, beginning Tuesday, Feb. 20 through Friday, Feb. 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for application of new roadway striping and reflective markers. 

 

KAMUELA 

Single lane closure on Kawaihae Road (Route 19) possible in either direction, between mile post 57.01 and 57.03, beginning Tuesday, Feb. 20, through Friday, Feb. 23, for crews to install new roadway striping new the speed hump at Waimea Community Center. The work schedule for the week is as follows:  

  • Tuesday, Feb. 20, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. 
  • Wednesday, Feb. 21, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. 
  • Thursday, Feb. 22 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. 
  • Friday, Feb. 23, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. 

 

 KEAAU-PAHOA ROAD (ROUTE 130)  

KEAAU 

Shoulder closure on Keaau-Pahoa Road (Route 130) possible in either direction, between mile post 0 and 4.2, in the vicinity of Hawaii Belt Road and Pohaku Drive, beginning Tuesday, Feb. 20 through Friday, Feb. 23, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for crews to install and upgrade telecom poles, conduits and traffic cabinets. 

 

 KOHALA MOUNTAIN ROAD (ROUTE 250) 

KAMUELA 

Single lane closure on Kohala Mountain Road (Route 250) possible in either direction between mile post 6.17 and 10.6, Tuesday, Feb. 20 through Friday, Feb. 23 from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for resurfacing and reconstructing the roadway and weakened shoulder. 

 

KAMUELA  

Single lane closure on Kohala Mountain Road (Route 250) possible in either direction, between mile post 12 and 16, beginning Tuesday, Feb. 20 through Friday, Feb. 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for vegetation cutting and shoulder work.  

 

  PUAINAKO STREET (ROUTE 2000) 

HILO 

Single lane closure on Puainako Street (Route 2000) possible in either direction, in the vicinity of Hawaii Belt Road and Komohana Street, beginning Tuesday, Feb. 20 through Friday, Feb. 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for preparation work for an upcoming paving project.
