Hawaiʻi County D.U.I. Stats: April 22-28

During the week of April 22 through April 28, 2024, Hawai’i Island Police arrested seventeen motorists for D.U.I.  Five of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident while two drivers were under the age of 21.

So far in 2024, there have been 308 DUI arrests compared with 329 during the same period last year, a decrease of 6.4 percent.

The Hawai’i County Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 321 major crashes thus far in 2024, compared with 298 during the same time in 2023, an increase of 7.7 percent.

To date, there were 14 fatal crashes, resulting in 16 fatalities (two of which had multiple deaths), compared with 7 fatal crashes, resulting in 8 fatalities (one of which had multiple deaths, and one died at a later date) for the same time last year.  This represents and increase of 100 percent for fatal crashes and fatalities.
