Hawaiʻi County Lane Closures: Week of May 20

The Department of Transportation announced the following Hawaiʻi Island lane closures during the week of May 20, 2024. Lane closure schedules may change without notice at any time. All projects are weather permitting.

VOLCANO ROAD / MAMALAHOA HIGHWAY (ROUTE 11) 

 

MOUNTAIN VIEW

Single lane closure on Volcano Road (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile post 13.6 to 14.4, on Monday, May 20 through Friday, May 24, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for application of new striping on the speed humps at Mountain View Elementary, Gas Station and Post Office.

 

HAWAII NATIONAL PARK

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction, between mile post 28 to 30, on Monday, May 20 through Friday, May 24, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for vegetation cutting.

 

NAALEHU

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile post 66 to 69.5, in the vicinity of Haao Springs Road and Lorenzo Drive, on Monday, May 20 through Friday, May 24, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for vegetation cutting.

 

CAPTAIN COOK

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile post 97.2 to 104.7, in the vicinity of Haleili Street and Filipino Clubhouse Road, on Monday, May 20 through Friday, May 24, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for crews to work on safety improvements of the roadway.

 

CAPTAIN COOK

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile post 100 to 101.3, on Monday, May 20 through Friday, May 24, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for vegetation cutting.

 

 HAWAII BELT ROAD (ROUTE 19) 

 

LAUPAHOEHOE TO OOKALA

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction, between mile post 25 to 27, in the vicinity of Old Mamalahoa Highway and Jardine Road, on Monday, May 20 through Friday, May 24, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for shoulder stabilization and vegetation cutting.

 

 

STAINBACK HIGHWAY 

 

HILO TO MOUNTAIN VIEW

Full closure on Stainback Highway in both directions, in the vicinity of Panaewa Rainforest Zoo and North Kulani Road, on Monday, May 20 through Friday, May 24, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. for resurfacing of the roadway.

 

 KOHALA MOUNTAIN ROAD (ROUTE 250) 

 

KAMUELA

Single lane closure on Kohala Mountain Road (Route 250) possible in either direction between mile post 6.17 to 10.6, on Monday, May 20 through Friday, May 24, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for crews to clean and dress the roadway shoulders and removal of Best Management Practices (BMP’s).

 

KAMUELA

Single lane closure on Kohala Mountain Road (Route 250) possible in either direction between mile post 12 to 15, on Monday, May 20 through Friday, May 24, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for shoulder work and vegetation removal with grader.

 

 

 PUAINAKO STREET (ROUTE 2000) 

 

HILO

Single lane closure on Puainako Street (Route 2000) possible in either direction, in the vicinity of Kanoelehua Ave and Komohana Street, on Monday, May 20 through Friday, May 24, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for preparation work as part of the Puainako Street Widening Project.
