On May 3, South Hilo patrol officers responded to a Hilo business for a burglary alarm and determined that between 3:08 a.m. and 3:17 a.m., a suspect arrived at the business, and made entry into the building by prying open the rear door with a crowbar. The suspect then proceeded to an ATM, pulled off the front cover and struck the lower door of the machine with the crowbar, in an attempt to gain access to its currency.
As police arrived in the area, the suspect fled the scene and was last seen heading west on foot. Officers conducted checks in the surrounding neighborhoods, however no suspects were located.
