Hawai‘i Island police are investigating a possible drowning involving 53-year-old man Timothy Zedalis of Denver, Colorado  that occurred in Pahoa on Saturday morning, June 29, 2024.

On June 29, Puna patrol officers responded to Kehena Beach after receiving information that a male was unresponsive and not breathing after being pulled from the water.

Although CPR was administered by a bystander and HFD Medics, Zedalis was later pronounced dead after being transported to the Hilo Medical Center.

Police have initiated a Coroner’s Inquest investigation to determine the exact cause of death, although no foul play is suspected.
