Hawaiʻi County D.U.I. Statistics: July 1-7

During the week of July 1, through July 7, 2024, Hawai`i Island police arrested 22 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Five of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident.

So far in 2024, there have been 505 DUI arrests compared with 506 during the same period last year, a decrease of 0.2 percent.

The Hawaiʻi County Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 518 major crashes thus far in 2024, compared with 442 during the same time last year, an increase of 17.19 percent.

To date, there were 18 fatal crashes, resulting in 20 fatalities compared with 9 fatal crashes, resulting in 10 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents an increase of 100 percent for fatal crashes and 100 percent for fatalities.
