(AP) — A helicopter crashed into the ocean off the Hawaiian island of Kauaʻi on Thursday, leaving one person dead and two others missing, according to the Kauaʻi Police Department.

Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer Corinne Zilnicki says a hiker reported witnessing the crash off the Na Pali Coast around 2 p.m.

The Federal Aviation Administration says three people were on board the Robinson R44 helicopter.

The National Transportation Safety Board will investigate.
