Hawai‘i Island police are investigating a Pahoa traffic collision between a motor vehicle and a pedestrian.

Yesterday morning, police learned that a 2022 Hyundai pickup truck traveling west on Ainaloa Boulevard, struck a female pedestrian who was crossing the road outside of the crosswalk.

The pedestrian, who was located unresponsive at the scene, was transported to the Hilo Benioff Medical Center where she remains in critical condition.

The operator of the Hyundai pickup truck, a 36-year-old Pahoa man, was not injured as a result of the collision.

At this time police do not believe impairment or speed to be factors in the investigation.
