From August 13-24, Hilo will be the center of the outrigger canoe paddling world as the host of the International Vaʻa Federation World Sprint Championships.

During the event, more than 2,800 paddlers from 27 competing countries will participate in the races, which will take place at Hilo Bayfront Beach Park.

The Hawai‘i County Police Department is encouraging motorists to drive with caution and to anticipate significant traffic congestion.

Event parking will be available at Wailoa River State Recreation Area on the field between the Wailoa River and Kamehameha Avenue, with access from Bishop Street. Additionally, overflow parking will be available at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium parking lot.
