Keaʻau “Rid-A-Fridge” Recycling Event Rescheduled Due to Tropical Storm

The Department of Environmental Management (DEM)ʻs RID-A-FRIDGE recycling event that was originally scheduled to take place at Kea’au Middle School for Saturday, August 24, was postponed due to weather concerns. The event has been rescheduled for Saturday, September 28 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Registration has also reopened.

During the event, DEM and Hawaiʻi Energy invite residents in zip codes 96720, 96749, 96778, and 96771 to recycle their old, working refrigerators or freezers and receive a $100 cash rebate per unit. Refrigerator or freezer must work and measure 14 ft3 or larger.

Eligibility has been expanded to Hilo zip code 96720.
