In response to the prolonged power outages caused by Hurricane Hone, the Hawaiʻi County Department of Parks & Recreation opened two shelters to support affected households.

The shelters, which are pet-friendly and contain Wi-Fi, are located at Kea‘au Armory at Shipman Park and Pāhoa Neighborhood Facility at William “Billy” Kenoi District Park.

The County is also collaborating with Hawaiian Electric to provide information and resources at both sites. Additionally, Vibrant Hawai‘i will be on hand to offer further support to those in need.

Anyone who plans to utilize the shelters is encouraged to bring the following items:

  • Prescriptions and emergency medications
  • Hygiene supplies and other comfort items
  • Supplies needed for children and infants, such as diapers, formula, and toys
  • Pet carriers and necessary supplies for your pets
  • Chargers for any electronic devices you bring
