The Hawai‘i County Police Department is requesting public assistance in identifying two suspects involved in a recent downtown Hilo assault.

On the night of September 6, South Hilo patrol officers received a report of a male who was assaulted in front of a bar on Keawe Street.

Upon arrival, officers encountered a 64-year-old male visitor who said he saw two unknown males fighting and attempted to break-up the fight. As the victim intervened, both males began assaulting him, eventually placing the victim in a choke-hold.

The victim was transported to Hilo Benioff Medical Center where it was determined that he sustained substantial bodily injuries from the altercation.

Anyone with information with information regarding this case is encouraged to call the police department’s non-emergency number at (808) 935-3311. They may also contact Detective Amy Omaya of the Area I Criminal Investigation Section at (808) 961-2381 or via email at amy.omaya@hawaiicounty.gov.
