Hawaiʻi County D.U.I. Statistics: September 30-October 6

During the week of September 30, through October 6, 2024, Hawai‘i Island police arrested 14 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Three of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident and none of the drivers were under the age of 21.

So far in 2024, there have been 755 DUI arrests compared with 746 during the same period last year, an increase of 1.21 percent.

The Hawai‘i County Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 753 major crashes thus far in 2024, compared with 643 during the same time last year, an increase of 17.1 percent.

To date, there were 21 fatal crashes, resulting in 23 fatalities, compared with 13 fatal crashes, resulting in 14 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents an increase of 62 percent for fatal crashes and 64.3 percent for fatalities.
