The New York Yankees defeated the Kansas City Royals 3-1 on Thursday night in Game 4 on their ALDS, and will now advance to the AL Championship Series.

Yankees ace pitcher Gerrit Cole limited the Royals to one run on six hits and no walks over seven innings of work, striking out four of 26 batters he faced in 87 pitches. Yankees second baseman Gleyber Torres and designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton each recorded a pair of hits and drove in a run, with Juan Soto adding a run as well.

The Yankees will face the winner of the ALDS series between the Cleveland Guardians and Detroit Tigers in the ALCS, which is set to begin on Monday, Oct. 14 at Yankee Stadium.

The Cleveland Guardians defeated the Detroit Tigers 5-4 in Game 4 of the ALDS on Thursday night at Comerica Park in Detroit, tying the series up 2-2.

The Guardians rallied in the seventh inning with pinch hitter David Fry blasting a home run to left center field to give the Guardians a 4-3 lead.  While the Tigers got base runners in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings, the Guardians added a run in the ninth and were able to hold on to the lead to force Game 5.

The Tigers will face the Guardians at home for Game 5, set for Saturday at 4:38 p.m. in Cleveland.
