Hawaiʻi County D.U.I. Statistics: February 24-March 3

During the week of February 24, through March 3, 2025, Hawai’i Island police arrested 26 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Seven of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash, while two of the drivers was under the age of 21.

So far in 2025, there have been 171 DUI arrests compared with 168 during the same period last year, an increase of 1.8 percent.

The Hawai‘i County Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 160 major crashes thus far in 2025 compared with 162 major crashes during the same time last year, a decrease of 1.2 percent.

To date, there have been seven fatal crashes, resulting in eight fatalities compared with seven fatal crashes, resulting in seven fatalities for the same time last year, an increase of 14.3 percent for fatalities.

So far in 2025, the non-traffic fatality count (not on a public roadway) is zero, compared to zero non-traffic fatalities for the same time last year.
