NOAA’s National Weather Service will be testing a proof of concept to improve services through unification of the nation’s hurricane operations during the 2025 hurricane season.

The project will involve a team approach with hurricane specialists at the Central Pacific Hurricane Center in Honolulu, Hawaii and the National Hurricane Center in Miami, Florida. The NWS national hurricane team will focus on enhancing expertise and improving consistency and coordination of messaging.

There will be no differences in the products and services provided for the central Pacific, and forecasts will continue to be issued from both centers throughout the 2025 hurricane season. Additional tropical weather outlook information for the Central Pacific will also be included in the East Pacific outlook to produce a seamless graphic and text product covering both basins. The Weather Forecast Office in Honolulu will continue to provide briefings and other decision support services to the State of Hawaii and local partners.

At the end of the season, an evaluation will be made on the capability to maintain service and benefits to NWS partners and the public living in the State of Hawaii.
