No. 2 seeded Carlos Alcaraz won the French Open for the second year in a row after defeating top-seeded Jannik Sinner in the men’s finals at Roland Garros.

Alcaraz, 22, defended his title by coming back from two sets down and saving three championship points to win 4-6, 6-7(4), 6-4, 7-6(3), 7-6(2), after five hours and 29 minutes – the longest French Open final in history. Neither Sinner nor Alcaraz had lost a Grand Slam final before Sunday.

Alcaraz is the first man to win a Grand Slam title after saving match point since Novak Djokovic beat Roger Federer in the 2019 Wimbledon final. After the match on Court Philippe Chatrier, Alcaraz told Sinner: “The level you have is amazing. It is a privilege to share a court with you in every tournament and in making history.”

Alcaraz added: “Honestly, I don’t know what I did. Honestly, I don’t know what happened. I didn’t think about anything else, just going point after point and putting my heart into it and getting all of my energy into it. I tried to not give up. We were in a final of a grand slam. There wasn’t time to be afraid. There wasn’t time to give up. I just tried to fight until the last ball .. It was the perfect place to come back from two sets down … It was the best match I played in a Grand Slam and I’m really proud and happy this happened.”
