Police Investigating Possible Domestic Violence Incident

Hawai‘i Island police arrested a 22-year-old Ocean View woman in connection with a pedestrian traffic collision that substantially injured a 24-year-old Ocean View man in the Hawaiian Ocean View Estates subdivision.

On Tuesday, Ka‘ū patrol officers responded to a report of a vehicle versus pedestrian traffic collision Upon arrival, officers contacted 22-year-old Alaina Kainoa-Aukai who identified herself as the operator of the vehicle and displayed signs of impairment. Upon arrest, Kainoa-Aukai became combative and kicked an officer multiple times in the leg prior to being placed into a police transport vehicle.

The pedestrian, a possible boyfriend of Kainoa-Aukai, sustained substantial bodily injury as a result of the collision and was transported to Kona Community Hospital for treatment.

Additional investigation into the incident revealed that this event may be associated with domestic violence.

Kainoa-Aukai was arrested for:

  • First-degree negligent injury
  • Operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant
  • First-degree assault against a law enforcement officer
