20 year-old Lasty Jessy of Puna was arrested and charged for a series of offenses that occurred between July 4 -6.

According to police, on July 4,  Jessy was involved in a robbery incident at the Kona International Airport where he is alleged to have taken a Subaru Outback.  Two days later he was arrested following a traffic collision involving the same Subaru Outback and another vehicle in Hilo.

Yesterday, Jessy made his initial Hilo District Court appearance where his bail was maintained at $194,000.00 and he was ordered to appear for a preliminary hearing on July 10.

As the Complaint alleges, Jessy is charged with Robbery in the Second Degree, Theft in the First Degree (theft of a motor vehicle), Unauthorized Control of a Propelled Vehicle in the First Degree, Resisting an Order to Stop a Motor Vehicle in the First Degree, Operating a Vehicle Under the Influence of an Intoxicant, Driving Without a License, Reckless Driving, and Inattention to Driving. The most serious offenses, Robbery in the Second Degree and Theft in the First Degree, are both class B felony offenses and carry a penalty of either a ten-year prison term or four years probation and up to eighteen months in jail.

The charges are merely allegations, and the Defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Jeff Malate.
