(UPDATED)

Hawaiʻi County Fire and Police Department units responded to a downed banyan tree in Hilo over the weekend, which prompted road closures.

According to authorities, responding units found that a large banyan tree fell across all lanes of Kilauea Avenue near the corner of Aupuni Street, and on a portion of The Calvary Chapel Hilo.

One empty vehicle was found on the roadway under branches, while multiple utility poles and power lines were down on roadway as a result of the fallen tree.

Calvary Chapel, which sustained damage from tree, was searched and cleared.

The scene was turned over to HPD, HELCO, DPW, and Hawaiian Telcom.

No deaths or injuries were reported.

Kīlauea Avenue between Mohouli Street and Hoku Street, which had been closed, is now open in both directions.
