During the week of June 30, to July 6, 2025 Hawai‘i Island police arrested 24 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Six of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash, while three of the drivers were under the age of 21.

Thus far in 2025, there have been 484 DUI arrests compared with 500 during the same period in 2024, a decrease of 3.2 percent.

The Hawai‘i County Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 542 major crashes so far this year, compared with 520 major crashes during the same time last year, an increase of 4.23 percent.

To date, there have been 13 fatal crashes, resulting in 14 fatalities compared with 17 fatal crashes, resulting in 19 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents a decrease of 23.53 percent for fatal crashes and 26.32 percent for fatalities.

So far in 2025, the non-traffic fatality count (not on a public roadway) is zero, compared to zero non-traffic fatalities for the same time last year.
