A mother wanted for questioning in a custodial interference investigation involving her six-year-old daughter is now wanted for an outstanding arrest warrant.

Police learned that the pair is believed to be in Arizona, prompting the Arizona Department of Public Safety to issue a Turquoise Alert yesterday, the first ever issued in that state.

Following a July 19, media release regarding the pair’s disappearance Hawai‘i County Police received credible information that 48-year-old Sarah Coultas, of Pa‘auilo, and her daughter Violet Coultas were in the Phoenix area. An arrest warrant was subsequently issued for Coultas for violation of a court order.

Working in coordination with the State of Hawai‘i Department of the Attorney General’s Missing Child Center and the Arizona Department of Public Safety, it was determined that Violet met the criteria for a Turquoise Alert.  This statewide notification system helps locate missing and endangered persons under the age of 65, including tribal members.
