ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that San Antonio Spurs’ De’Aaron Fox has agreed to a four-year, $229 million contract extension with the Spurs. The new deal will keep Fox in San Antonio through the 2029-30 season.

Fox, 27, landed in San Antonio in a three-team trade after spending seven and a half seasons with the Kings. Sacramento drafted Fox out of Kentucky with the fifth overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft. His agent, Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul, informed Sacramento of Fox’s desire to join the Spurs last season, with Fox stating at the time: “There was no f***ing list, there was one team. I wanted to go to San Antonio. So, a lot of people are mad at me, saying I handcuffed the team by giving them a destination. Well, this is my career. If anybody else is in my position, you’d do the same thing. It’s not my job to help build your team. I’m not about to just go where [the Kings] want me to go. I wanted to have a destination.”

Fox averaged 23.5 points, 6.3 assists, 4.8 rebounds and 1.5 steals in 36.1 minutes per game last season, shooting 46.3% from the field, 31% from 3-point range and 82.7% from the free-throw line across 62 total appearances for the Spurs and Kings. The former All-Star and All-NBA had the second-highest individual scoring performance of the season, with a career-high (and Kings franchise) record 60 points in a win over the Timberwolves last November.
