42 year-old Paul Alisa of Hilo was sentenced to a ten-year prison term for attempted distribution of fentanyl.

On May 26, 2024, VICE East officers executed a narcotics search warrant upon a Honda Accord that Alisa was operating. Police recovered approximately 0.5 grams of fentanyl, a digital scale, and over fifty clean/unused zip packets in various sizes. After being advised of his rights, Alisa admitted that he buys 0.5 grams of fentanyl and sells “points” (0.1 grams) of fentanyl at a time. According to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, 2mg or 0.02 grams of fentanyl can be a lethal dose for one adult.

On August 5, 2025, Alisa appeared in Hilo Circuit Court for his sentencing hearing. After hearing arguments from the parties, the Court sentenced him for Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the Second Degree. The Court also revoked Alisa’s felony probation and sentenced him to concurrent prison terms.

Previously, on May 15, 2025, Alisa appeared in Hilo Circuit Court where he entered a “Guilty” plea to the charge of Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the Second Degree.
