Hawaiʻi Island Lane Closures: Week of September 1

The Department of Transportation announced the following Hawaiʻi Island lane closures during the week of September 1, 2025.  In observance of Labor Day on Monday, September 1 there will be no contraflow and lane closures unless otherwise permitted. Lane closure schedules may change at any time without further notice.  All projects are weather permitting.

 

KANOELEHUA AVENUE (ROUTE 11) 

HILO

Single lane closure on Kanoelehua Avenue (Route 11) in the northbound direction near mile post 3.2, in the vicinity of Waianuhea Place, on Tuesday, September 2 to Friday, September 5 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for maintaining pocket markings.

 

KEAAU

Single lane closure on Kanoelehua Avenue (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile post 5 to 8, in the vicinity of Ikaika Lane and Old Volcano Road, on Tuesday, September 2 to Friday, September 5 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for mulching, cutting grass, and shoulder work.

 

VOLCANO ROAD (ROUTE 11) 

KURTISTOWN

Roving lane closure on Volcano Road (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile post 8.8 to 8.9, in the vicinity of Puko Street and North Road, on Tuesday, September 2 to Friday, September 5 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for maintaining pocket markings.

VOLCANO

Roving lane closure on Volcano Road (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile post 27.5 to 28, in the vicinity of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, on Tuesday, September 2 to Friday, September 5 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. for HELCO to install a new pole and wiring.

 

MAMALAHOA HIGHWAY (ROUTE 11) 

 

PAHALA

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile post 54 to 55, on Tuesday, September 2 to Friday, September 5 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for cutting grass.

NAALEHU

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile post 60 to 69, on Tuesday, September 2 to Friday, September 5 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for restriping, installation of centerline rumble strips and pavement markers.

KEALAKEKUA

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile post 112 to 114, in the vicinity of Hokukano Road and West Honalo Road, on Tuesday, September 2 to Friday, September 5 from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. for grass cutting and shoulder work.

 

 HAWAII BELT ROAD (ROUTE 19) 

 

PAPIKOU

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between mile post 6 to 6.5, in the vicinity of Kaaukai Place and Mill Road, on Wednesday, September 3 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for bridge maintenance on Kapue bridge.

PAPIKOU

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between mile post 6 to 7, in the vicinity of Kaaukai Place and Hajime Lane, on Tuesday, September 2 to Friday, September 5  from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for bridge maintenance.

OOKALA

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between mile post 27 to 28, in the vicinity of Jardine Road, Tuesday, September 2 to Friday, September 5 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for cutting grass.

OOKALA

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between mile post 33 to 33.5, in the vicinity of Kalopa bridge, Wednesday, September 4 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for bridge maintenance.

PAAUILO

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between mile post 37 to 37.5, in the vicinity of Kaumoalii bridge, Tuesday, September 2 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for bridge maintenance.

 MAMALAHOA HIGHWAY (ROUTE 190) 

WAIMEA

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 190) possible in either direction between mile post 0 to 1, in the vicinity of Lindsey Road and Lalamilo Farm Road, on Tuesday, September 2 to Friday, September 5, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for striping.

SOUTH KOHALA

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 190) possible in either direction between mile post 12.2 to 16.4, in the vicinity of Saddle Road on Tuesday, September 2 to Friday, September 5 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for striping of lane lines, turn pockets, and direction arrows.

KALAOA 

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 190) possible in either direction between mile post 34 to 35, in the vicinity of Akamai Street and Onaona Drive on Tuesday, September 2 to Friday, September 5 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for tree trimming, cutting grass, and shoulder work.

AKONI PULE HIGHWAY (ROUTE 270) 

KAWAIHAE 

Single lane closure on Akoni Pule Highway (Route 270) possible in either direction between mile post 2 to 5, in the vicinity of Maluokalani Street and Kohala Ranch Road on Saturday, August 30 and Tuesday, September 2 to Friday, September 5 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for tree trimming and shoulder work

 PUAINAKO STREET (ROUTE 2000) 

HILO

Single lane closure on Puainako Street (Route 2000) possible in either direction between mile post 0.5 to 2.2, in the vicinity of Kanoelehua Avenue and Komohana Street, on Tuesday, September 2 to Friday, September 5 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for striping, installing new raised pavement markers and traffic signal loops.
