Hawaiʻi County D.U.I. Stats: August 25-31

During the week of August 25 to August 31, 2025 Hawai‘i Island police arrested 14 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Two of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash, while one of the drivers was under the age of 21.

So far in 2025, there have been 599 DUI arrests compared with 653 during the same period last year, a decrease of 8.27 percent.

The Hawai‘i County Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 694 major crashes thus far in 2025, compared with 676 major crashes during the same time last year, an increase of 2.7 percent.

To date, there have been 14 fatal crashes, resulting in 15 fatalities compared with 20 fatal crashes, resulting in 22 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents a decrease of 30 percent for fatal crashes and 31.8 percent for fatalities.

So far in 2025, the non-traffic fatality count (not on a public roadway) is zero, compared to zero non-traffic fatalities for the same time last year.
