Hawaiʻi County Lane Closures: Week of September 8

The Department of Transportation announced the following Hawaiʻi Island lane closures during the week of September 8, 2025. Lane closure schedules may change at any time without further notice.  All projects are weather permitting.

 

 VOLCANO ROAD (ROUTE 11) 

KEAAU

Single lane closure on Volcano Road (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile post 6 to 8, in the vicinity of Old Volcano Road, on Monday, September 8 to Friday, September 12 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for mulching and shoulder work.

VOLCANO

Single lane closure on Volcano Road (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile post 27.5 to 30, in the vicinity of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, on Monday, September 8 to Friday, September 12 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. for HELCO to install new powerline poles.

VOLCANO

Single lane closure on Volcano Road (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile post 30 to 31, in the vicinity of Kilauea Military Camp and Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, on Monday, September 8 to Friday, September 12 from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for paving at the entrance of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.

 

MAMALAHOA HIGHWAY (ROUTE 11) 

 

NAALEHU

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile post 60 to 71, on Monday, September 8 to Friday, September 12 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for restriping, installation of centerline rumble strips and pavement markers.

 HAWAII BELT ROAD (ROUTE 19) 

 

PAPAIKOU (

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between mile post 6 to 7, in the vicinity of Kaaukai Place and Hajime Lane, on Monday, September 8 to Friday, September 12 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for bridge maintenance.

HAKALAU

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction in the vicinity of mile post 14 and 15, in the vicinity of Old Mamalahoa Highway and Chin Chuck Road, on Monday, September 8 to Friday, September 12 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for grading and shoulder work.

HAKALAU

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction in the vicinity of mile post 15 and 16, in the vicinity of Chin Chuck Road and Leopolino Road, on Monday, September 8 to Friday, September 12 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for cutting grass.

WELOKA

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between mile post 21.3 to 24.3, in the vicinity of Mamalahoa Highway, Thursday, September 11 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. for maintenance on Kihalani Bridge.

WELOKA

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction near mile post 22.8, in the vicinity of Koi Loop, Friday, September 12 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. for maintenance on Kapehu Bridge.

  QUEEN KAAHUMANU HIGHWAY (ROUTE 19) 

  

KAILUA-KONA

Single lane closure on Queen Kaahumanu Highway (Route 19) possible in either direction between mile post 80 to 99, in the vicinity of Kaiwi Street, on Monday, September 8 to Friday, September 12 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for litter removal and mowing.

 KEAAU-PAHOA ROAD (ROUTE 130) 

KEAAU

Single lane closure on Keaau-Pahoa Road (Route 130) possible in either direction between mile post 0 to 3, in the vicinity of Keaau Bypass Road, on Monday, September 8 to Friday, September 12, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for cutting grass.

 

MAMALAHOA HIGHWAY (ROUTE 190) 

WAIMEA

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 190) possible in either direction between mile post 0 to 1, in the vicinity of Lindsey Road and Lalamilo Farm Road, on Monday, September 8 to Friday, September 12, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for striping.

SOUTH KOHALA

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 190) possible in either direction between mile post 12.2 to 16.4, in the vicinity of Saddle Road on Monday, September 8 to Friday, September 12 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for striping of lane lines, turn pockets, and direction arrows.

KALAOA 

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 190) possible in either direction between mile post 34 to 35, in the vicinity of Akamai Street and Onaona Drive on Monday, September 8 to Friday, September 12 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for cutting grass, and shoulder work.

 KOHALA MOUNTAIN ROAD (ROUTE 250) 

KAPAAU

Single lane closure on Kohala Mountain Road (Route 250) possible in either direction between mile post 9 to 12, in the vicinity of Foot Path Road and Kohola Street on Monday, September 8 to Friday, September 12 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for tree trimming and shoulder work.

 PUAINAKO STREET (ROUTE 2000) 

HILO

Single lane closure on Puainako Street (Route 2000) possible in either direction between mile post 0.5 to 2.2, in the vicinity of Kanoelehua Avenue and Komohana Street, on Monday, September 8 to Friday, September 12 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for striping, installing new raised pavement markers and traffic signal loops.

HILO (NIGHT WORK)

Single lane closure on Puainako Street (Route 2000) possible in either direction between mile post 0.5 to 2.2, in the vicinity of Kanoelehua Avenue and Komohana Street, on Monday, September 8 to Friday, September 12 from 5 p.m. to 12 a.m. for installing traffic signal loops.
