KWXX Launches 94.7FM Booster to Serve Kaʻū District
Delivering Island Music, Community Connection, and Critical Emergency Alerts to Pāhala, Waiʻōhinu, Nāʻālehu, and Ocean View
Hilo, Hawaiʻi — September 10, 2025 — KWXX-FM, Hawaiʻi Island’s trusted source for contemporary Island/Hawaiian music and local news, is proud to announce the launch of its new 94.7FM broadcast booster, now serving the Kaʻū district. This expansion brings KWXX’s signature sound and vital emergency alerting capabilities to the communities of Pāhala, Waiʻōhinu, Nāʻālehu, and Ocean View—areas that have long experienced limited or no reliable radio coverage.
In addition to music and news programming, the new booster enhances access to real-time emergency alerts for natural disasters, civil defense updates, and other urgent public safety messages. The effort reflects a shared commitment between KWXX and the County of Hawaiʻi to improve communications infrastructure and ensure that even remote communities are informed and protected during critical events.
Chris Leonard, President and General Manager of KWXX and New West Broadcasting, shared:
“This isn’t just about expanding our reach, it’s about serving our community. Kaʻū has waited a long time for dependable radio coverage, and we’re honored to provide both entertainment and life-saving information to these resilient communities.”
Mayor Kimo Alameda commented:
“Every community counts. The people of Hawai‘i Island all deserve a commitment to public safety and access to emergency information, and this effort to expand radio coverage is helping to provide that in Kaʻū.”
Talmadge Magno, Hawaiʻi County Civil Defense Administrator, added:
“Improving radio coverage to Kaʻū advances our work to reach the last person, in the last house on the last block of every community with the alerts and information they need to help keep themselves and their ‘ohana safe.”
Listeners in Kaʻū can now tune in to KWXX on 94.7FM for uninterrupted access to island music hits, local voices, and emergency alerts.
