Sergeant Amy Omaya of the Hawai‘i Police Department has been honored with the Hawai‘i State Law Enforcement Officials Association Officer of the Year award. The recognition celebrates her outstanding investigative work, particularly in solving two major homicide cases on Hawai‘i Island.

In June 2024, she led the investigation into the death of an elderly woman, ultimately identifying a suspect through extensive forensic and interview work.

Earlier this year, she solved a fatal street shooting in Hilo despite limited initial evidence.

Omaya was praised her professionalism, dedication, and compassion for victims.
